Dear Colleagues

As we move further into Spring I hope that your days are filled with sunshine and joy.

TRAINING AND ENRICHMENT CONFERENCES

As you know the Training Conference for new Registered Directors is fast approaching. Overlapping of course is the Enrichment Conference for Current

RDs.

The Training Team, established by Suzy Yehl is preparing this training and this will help to ensure the continuation of Rainbows into the future.

HE’S GONE AND I MISS HIM.

Hilary Fraser from City Mission in Launceston is the successful author of a book entitled, He’s Gone and I Miss Him. This book deals with suicide and because of its sensitive nature an adult is required to assist to process the material in the book. The book contains three age appropriate stories specifically designed for a caring adult to read to/with a child. There are questions for discussion to encourage the child to tell his/her own experience and express the relevant feelings. General guidelines for helping children are listed at the back of the book.

For further information or to purchase the book, contact Hilary Fraser (03) 6331 6999 or hilary@citymission.org.au

SITE STATUS REPORT FORM

This is the time each year when RDs distribute the Site Status Report Form. You will notice a few changes. This Form will continue to undergo change until such time as it suits our requirements.

NEWS FROM WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Rainbows in Western Australia has been very busy this school term with a continued demand for places in our facilitator trainings. We are now spreading out of Perth in all directions, especially to the south. Our trainings are not advertised, yet we are booked out a term in advance, including places already booked for 2009!

A Celebrate Me workshop is held annually where school Facilitators and  coordinators have an opportunity to meet, network and share ideas. Some of these ideas include Life Savers on hat elastic as a bracelet, rainbow coloured salt in jars, some amazing Dream Catchers and candles decorated with glitter glue - just to name a few.

This is a very positive workshop with school sites able to share their highs and lows and take home suggestions from other school sites.

We have two wonderful facilitators attending the Queensland Conference and look forward to them coming back to WA and assisting with the growth and promotion of Rainbows in the West. Jenny Miolin and Julie Shimmen are attending as part of the training team and Colleen Smith, Margaret Maassen and Julie Craig will be attending Enrichment.

Two amazing ladies from WA have been nominated and accepted as new members on the Australian Rainbows Board. They have much to contribute and share with  Rainbows from their respective professions – we warmly welcome and thank them for their support to Rainbows. Happy Rainbowing !

WA looks forward to catching up with everyone at the Queensland Conference.

‘Care’ also comes from the gothic word Kara meaning ‘mourning’. Care is participation in the pain of another, a solidarity in suffering.

‘Listeners are life’s rarest breed … Listeners – those who hear the pain behind the pain … come few and far between.

Joan Chittister OSB.
